Gooch, who has been involved with the England Test squad on a consultancy basis since last winter’s tour of South Africa, insisted that Strauss was not out of form despite a current series tally of 155 runs at 25.83, adding that opening batsmen are programmed to accept early dismissals against the new ball as part and parcel of the game.

Pietersen’s top score this summer was a chancy 80 at Edgbaston that nevertheless enabled England to win the match, but he himself admitted after that game that he had perhaps taken too much of his form for granted from England’s successful World Twenty20 campaign in the Caribbean back in May, in which he was named as Player of the Tournament for a tally of 248 runs from 180 balls, at an average of 62.

MS Dhoni is the top-ranked one-day batsman in the world, but has been part of two shambolic Indian collapses. With some of the youngsters in the middle order finding it hard to adjust to the seaming pitches in the tournament, the team is looking to their captain to deliver.

New Zealand’s inexperienced batting line-up remains their biggest concern. The relaxed format of the tournament and the unseasonal rain which washed out their match against Sri Lanka means their batsmen have, amazingly, not had a bat in the middle for a dozen days, which the captain Ross Taylor said is “going to give a little more anxiety than the actual game itself.”

Sri Lanka win 5th ODI match againest india

By admin on August 23rd, 2010

Indian Team suffered its biggest One-Day International defeat in terms of balls remaining, as Sri Lanka cruised into the final of the tri-series Micromax Cup with a resounding eight wicket victory in the 5th ODI here on Sunday.

Sri Lanka’s biggest wins over India, Kumar Sangakkara has said the team must aim at winning consistently, irrespective of the margin of victory. In front of a raucous Sunday crowd, Sri Lanka rolled MS Dhoni’s side over for 103, inflicting the largest defeat in India’s history in terms of balls remaining.

One of the minor surprises during Sri Lanka’s chase on Sunday was the promotion of Mahela Jayawardene to the top of the order, pushing the specialist opener, Upul Tharanga, down to No. 3.

Till date, India’s biggest defeat in terms of balls remaining was 174 against Australia at Sydney in 1981. India had scored 63 and Australia responded with 64 for one in that match.

Team India will have to now win its last match against New Zealand on Wednesday to secure a berth in the final.

India have five points while New Zealand have seven points in the ongoing tri-series tournament.

If Sri Lanka win today, they go through to the final, and the India-New Zealand game becomes a knockout. If India win today, both India and New Zealand go through. It’s worth remembering that Sri Lanka have made the finals of every competition involving three or more teams in Sri Lanka, barring the Bank Alfalah Cup in 2003.

Watch Sri Lanka vs New Zealand Tri-Series 2010 4th ODI Live Streaming at Dambulla. The fourth match of the tri-series, between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, became the first-ever ODI in Dambulla to be abandoned because of rain. It wasn’t abandoned in the true sense of the word there was a reserve day assigned for every match of the tournament, and both teams were to have the toss again on Friday.

Watch New Zealand vs Sri Lanka 4th ODI Cricket Match Live Scores and Live Updates Starting Time Local 14:30,GMT 09:00,Friday 20th Aug 2010.New Zealand welcomed back Jacob Oram and Grant Elliot, but had to do without Martin Guptill who injured himself in the lead-up to the match. Peter Ingram took his place. On Friday, though, both teams will be allowed to name fresh XIs.

This game was supposed to restore the focus on on-field action after the last three days were dominated by the the Suraj Randiv no-ball, allegations, inquiries, and suspensions. As a result, Randiv, who bowled the no-ball to deny Virender Sehwag a century in the previous game, was suspended for this ODI, and the washed-out day’s play won’t count as time served for him.

Pakistan continue to be a mind-boggling mixture of confused signals, but after much deliberation it has been confirmed that Zulqarnain Haider is out of the series which is a major blow after his gutsy display last week. How much impact Broad’s throw actually had on Haider’s finger is still subject to conjecture, but it adds a bit of spice to this encounter.

Kamran Akmal returns to replace the injured Haider and Yousuf comes into the middle order at the expense of Umar Amin, with Yasir Hameed finally getting an outing in place of Shoaib Malik as well.

Alastair Cook is most in need of a major contribution after a difficult season, but this England team doesn’t ditch players at the first sign of a problem.

By admin on August 17th, 2010

The 2010 Champions League Twenty20 will be contested by ten teams, as opposed to the 12 that participated in the inaugural edition in 2009, after the ECB said its domestic sides could not compete because the competition clashed with the end of the English domestic season.

South Africa will host the next Champions League Twenty20, to run from September 10 to 26, the tournament’s organisers have announced. The tournament chairman Lalit Modi confirmed the decision, following a board meeting in Mumbai where it was formally agreed to accept Cricket South Africa’s invitation to stage the event.
